When asked about the various places to see in Delhi, most would mention popularly visited places like Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Jama Masjid, India Gate, Lotus Temple, etc. But only Ā a few would tell you of Ā Humayunās Tomb.
Situated in South Delhi, in close proximity to the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, this monument is by far one of the most peaceful places to spend an evening. If you want to get away from the smoke and the hustle-bustle of the city, this is the perfect place to head to.
Surrounded by lush green lawns and loads of green cover, this certainly is one of the greenest places in Delhi city. The massive structure built of red stone Ā situated centrally amidst all the greenery, is a photographerās haven. Ā The Char Bagh Garden surrounds this structure. It is the first structure which used red stone to such a large extent. This monument was commissioned by Humayunās first wife Bega Begum and designed by a Persian architect, Mirak Mirza Ghiyas.
It is the first garden tomb in the Indian sub continent and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 and since then it has undergone many restorations, which are now complete.
So the next time you are in Delhi and are tired of the usual places you know exactly where to go! Ā You can club it with a trip on the Metro, the nearest Metro station being Jangpura on the Violet line.
A MUST visit! š
