10 things to Emulate from Japan

Japan+Earthquake+Photos
Pray for Japan

1. THE CALM
Not a single visual of chest-beating or wild grief. Sorrow itself has been elevated.

2.THE DIGNITY
Disciplined queues for water and groceries. Not a rough word or a crude gesture.

3. THE ABILITY
The incredible architects, for instance. Buildings swayed but didn’t fall.

4. THE GRACE
People bought only what they needed for the present, so everybody could get something.

5. THE ORDER
No looting in shops. No honking and no overtaking on the roads. Just understanding.

6. THE SACRIFICE
Fifty workers stayed back to pump sea water in the N-reactors. How will they ever be repaid?

7. THE TENDERNESS
Restaurants cut prices. An unguarded ATM is left alone. The strong cared for the weak.

8. THE TRAINING
The old and the children, everyone knew exactly what to do. And they did just that.

9. THE MEDIA
They showed magnificent restraint in the bulletins. No silly reporters. Only calm reportage.

10.THE CONSCIENCE
When the power went off in a store, people put things back on the shelves and left quietly.

  1. for the architecture part vishal, they have learnt their lesson some hundred years back.Japan has been prone to earthquakes..one simple example would be, ever notice those thin partitions of wood paneled with paper in any Japanese movies!! yeah its paper. and when a building goes down its the components in the building that kill people most of the times not the building itself ..if it were to be in India the furnitures, the heavy dining set, our classic goodrej Almira, all will prove to be fatal. And to feel a little secure the buildings designed in India nowadays(quite some of them as its mandatory) are slightly seismic resistant..it will give u a warning before it goes kaput!

  2. true…the grief hasn't been exhibited, the terror, anguish and the pin hasnt been showcased.
I pray for Japan, to gift the grief stricken with strength to bear their tribulations and emerge as a strong nation, once again, united.

  3. very true.

Japan has always been a strong and powerful nation, despite the many natural shortcomings it has(lack of space, repeated natural disasters, etc.) due to these very reasons.

we should learn to learn something from them.

but first, we will have to learn to learn.
