Schitt’s Creek Review

Schitt’s Creek

Rated 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.5 on IMDb, Schitt’s Creek is one show that will not disappoint you a bit. A masterpiece created by the father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy, this 6-season series presents a family’s journey from riches to rags. Following bankruptcy and loss of their social standing, the Rose family, who were once rather affluent and well-renowned, is forced to move to their only remaining asset – a small town called Schitt’s Creek bought as a joke.

The punny show name ‘Schitt’s Creek’ is enough to set the tone and foundation of the entire show, especially the town.

As the show progresses, the Rose family finds themselves struggling to live out of a motel room in a community that considers togetherness their strongest virtue. Not only are the Roses hit by reality, but they are also brought face-to-face to the world outside their bubbles. Still, one of the greatest elements of the show is the characters’ self-discovery and individual development as they cope with difficulties and begin to realize the importance of family.

Schitt’s Creek also does a terrific job in normalizing LGBTQ+ relationships through the relationship of David and Patrick. David’s explanation of pansexuality through the wine metaphor will always remain iconic.

A brilliantly scripted show with flawless acting, Schitt’s Creek will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Be it romance, drama, humor, or creating a fashion statement (only Moira can pull off those outfits), this series has it all. A must-watch, the show is indeed worthy of the numerous awards it has garnered. The Levy duo has given us a truly heartwarming show, and not to forget the evergreen catchphrases.
