The fresh new faces of the MBBS ‘013 batch were officially welcomed into the grand family of KMC Mangalore on the 1st October evening in the guise of Synergy 2013, brought forth by the Students’ Council 13-14.
“Where Retro Meets Metro” being its theme, Synergy ’13 saw unparalleled participation from the freshmen, with ladies dressing in the garish hues of retro and the men embracing the uber-cool metro shades. A platform built in quest of unexplored talent among the newbies, Synergy ’13 focused the spotlight on synchronized collective group performances as well as on path-breaking individual excellence.
With Arjun Tandon, Prateek Prasoon, Archi Raj and Prashasti Prasad at the helm as the MCs for the day, the evening kicked off with a fusion of Carnatic and Hindustani classical music with contemporary westernized numbers. A classical dance came next, performed exclusively by the ladies from the batch, who wowed the audience with their impressive choreography, perfect mudras and flowing red anarkalis. With grace giving way to more grace, came the Bollywood brigade, commemorating the glorious centenary of Indian motion pictures letting their feet tap to evergreen Bollywood melodies.
The dances, having set the temperature high for the evening, paved the way for a comic theatrical, The Return of Sholay, a spoof of the Bolly-hit. Directed by Saad Arshad Siddiqui, the skit had impressive elements of mimicry and stand-up comedy punched with the classical Bollywood melodrama. An absolute winner, the skit soon had the audience in splits.
Drama and dance having had their generous quota of limelight, next came the musical extravaganza. Built around the theme of the evening, it was a culmination of Bollywood numbers from the evergreen age of Kishore Kumars and Mohammed Rafis, and modern western tracks chartbusters like Rolling in the Deep and I’m Yours. The musical men soon had the entire auditorium joining them in harmony vocals.
As the crowning glory of the gala evening, there was the fashion show; a ramp boasting of the budding models and fashionistas of the new batch. A concoction of traditionally dressed ladies coupled with the hunks of the modern era, the ramp generated electricity, with Saad Arshad Siddiqui and Kritika Bansal as coordinators and Harika Polisetty as the apparel designer.
The mega-event drew to a conclusion with the Finale of the Mr. and Ms. Fresher Contest. Comprising of a talent round and a rapid fire round, the contest witnessed a tooth and claw battle between five men and six ladies for the respective crowns. Saad Arshad Siddiqui clinched Mr. Fresher with his hilarious impromptu act while Disha Gahlot worked her magic on judges to cement her position as Ms. Fresher ‘013.
The fresh new faces seem have to disarmed their way into everybody’s heart through their promising attributes and talents and have now become the talk of the KMC tinsel town. The Diamond Jubilee Batch of Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore appear to be a lot who won’t stop short of living up to their tagged title. Godspeed, we say.
Proud of you…….. SAAD…….. Keep it up…….!!!!!!!
