T. M. A Pai is not the only famous personality from Mangalore .There is a long list with it. Every field has a star from Mangalore. Name it and u will find on. Every star has risen high in their field and has personified success.
Here are few Mangaloreans who have made it big.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan –
The famous Indian film actress and first runner up of Miss India pageant and winner of Miss World pageant in 1994. Aishwarya Rai was a Mangalorean. Rai was born into an ethnic Bunt family in Mangalore, Karnataka. Her father, Krishnaraj, was a marine biologist, while her mother, Brindya, is a housewife. A fantastic actress and model famous works include Jodha Akbar, Taal, Dhoom 2, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Guzaarish…a true star indeed!
Shilpa Shetty
– renowned Indian film actress and model.Shilpa Shetty, like Aishwarya Rai was born in a bunt community in Mangalore. She had also been a part of the famous TV show Big brother and Bigg Boss. She has been a strong supporter of PETA due to her love for animals. She has also been portrayed in Hollywood films.
Aravind Adiga
– Did you know folks that the famous Indian writer and journalist Aravind Adiga has been brought up in Mangalore? Though Arvind was born in Madras his parents hailed from Mangalore. He has completed his high school from Mangalore studied in St. Aloysius high school and at Canara college Mangalore.He stood first in the SSLC state and then there was no looking back .The White tiger , his debut book, had won the booker prize in 2008.
Sanjay Manjerakar
– Guess what? The very famous right handed middle order batsman Sanjay Manjareker was also born in Mangalore with his sixes and fours he took Indian cricket to a new standard. After retiring from professional cricket, Manjrekar works as a cricket commentator.
Rohit Shetty
– Rohit Shetty is a very famous cinematographer and director. His movies are appreciated by the audience since most of his movies are humorous and fun. His list of super hit movies is long which include the very famous Golmaal series, all the best and the recent one added to the list is Chennai express.
Sunil Shetty
–the”Bad boy” of bollywood Sunil shetty was born in Mulkhi near Mangalore. With his charisma in Bollywood he has gone a long way giving many hits some of them being Hera Pheri, LOC Kargil and Main Hoon Na. The actor also owns restaurants specializing in Udupi cuisine and clothing boutiques.
Sahana Kumari
– The Olympic high jump athlete Sahana Kumari is also from Mangalore. Sahana was born in Kotekar village in Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka. Sahana was the last Indian athlete to qualify for the London Games. With the same sportsman spirit she continues to practice the sport religiously.
A special mention of none other than the King Khan himself, Shah Rukh Khan. Shah Rukh khan was brought up in Mangalore till the age of five. He was brought up by his aunts and his grandmother in Mangalore. His grandfather was the Karnataka state chief engineer of Mangalore Port who designed and built the Mangalore Port. Who would have ever thought of it?
Other famous personalities from this beautiful city are U. Srinivas Mallya, Shamita Shetty, Genelia D Souza, Shirish Kunder and Anant Pai (cartoonist).
The sky is the limit but here from a small place like Mangalore there is no limit of the number of stars born. It has given rise to such talents that the world has ever seen.
