Samsung Electronics Co Ltd,the world’s best-selling smartphone maker, today launched a variant of the popular Galaxy Note Smartphone with a curved display. Called Galaxy Round, the smartphone will feature a 5.7in (14.5cm) display and has a slight arch in its design. It weighs less than the Galaxy Note 3, allowing a more comfortable grip than other flat-screen models.
According to Samsung, “Curved displays open up possibilities for bendable designs that could eventually transform the high-end Smartphone market by allowing mobile and wearable gadgets to take new forms.”
Aside from featuring a curved display, the key feature on the Galaxy Round will be a tilt function which will allow users to see notifications even when the screen is off. Users can also move through music tracks played on the phone, or access pictures and video content by simply touching or tilting either the phone’s right or left side.
At the moment Samsung has only announced the Galaxy Round for release in South Korea tomorrow at a price of 1,089,000 won – roughly $1000 USD, and about the same price as the Galaxy Note 3.
