Real Steel

Synopsis:   Set in the near future, where robot boxing is a top sport, a struggling promoter feels he’s found a champion in a discarded robot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he discovers he has an 11-year-old son who wants to know his father. IMDB

Review:  It carries with it the high end typical style of Steven Spielberg with the special effects, lights, the post apocalyptic (in the future), sentimental package.  The film itself is a feel good, under dog into top dog movie setup on the lines of Rocky, The Champ and even Transformers.  The plot is cliche’.  You’ll know what will happen.  But how it get’s to that stage is what makes it fantastic.

The casting is terrific with  Hugh Jackman in one of his best performances to date.   Even Dakota Goyo portraying himself as Jackman’s son gives a stellar performance.  The relationship between the two is fantastic.  Even Evangeline Lilly who is in a small but still significant role in the film plays it just right.

It starts off a little shaky in the beginning but picks up within 15 min. An just doesn’t stop after that.  The robots are the real stars of the movie.  All the bouts have you sitting up in your seat and every time Atom wins you’ll be punching your hand in the air in victory.  This is the connection that’s achieved.

It’s the feel good movie of the year.  One of the best, with sensational visuals coupled with fantastic emotional attachement.  A must watch.
