John Terry’s Legacy:
Ex-England captain and Chelsea legend had announced earlier this week that he was going to retire from International football. He divides opinion among fans and is probably one of the most hated players in England. As a player he was always a great defender for England and has 78 caps to his name. He is the player with the best win percent as a captain for the England national team to have captained the team for at least 25 matches (mind you, 25 is a big number considering the frequency of international fixtures among club commitments). His off-field issues have always been an ‘issue’ for him, often getting him stick from pundits and fans alike (minus Chelsea fans, for whom he is: Captain, Leader, Legend) and he has also been stripped of captaincy twice because of it. After his announcement, infinite articles came up, some criticizing him and some not but it is hard to doubt his performances in the team, his commitment and his leadership abilities which make his retirement mark an end of an era, a controversial era. His boots are big ones to fill as it is the case with every great player. Like him or hate him but you cant ignore him. To conclude, Luiz Felipe Scolari once famously said the following quote about John Terry during his time with Chelsea:
For John Terry, dying in the field would be glory, you’d need to kill him and, maybe even then, he’d still play
League Cup kicks off:

They usually give youngsters and fringe players an opportunity to break into the first team. Expect promising players to shine, big clubs upset by other clubs and rest to the usual starters. Liverpool, the defending champions of the League Cup will be one of the favorites along with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United etc. But it offers clubs a chance to win some silverware and get into the history books. We have a big fixture to look forward to in Newcastle United vs Manchester United. So, here’s hoping for some good footballing action.

Chelsea continue to top the PL table after a narrow 1-0 win over Stoke while they lead Man United by a point who beat bitter rivals Liverpool 2-1 albeit in unconvincing fashion. Elsewhere Arsenal earned a credible point away to Manchester City in a 1-1 draw. In the Champions League round 1, Chelsea drew Juventus at home, 2-2 while Real Madrid left it late to beat Manchester City 3-2. Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Barcelona all registered wins as the season starts to get into full swing. This game week was the one for youngsters as Chelsea’s Oscar and Malaga’s Isco announced themselves in the grand stage, in style.
