STS 2010 – ICMR Projects – MBBS Manipal University

The MBBS students who had submitted their short term research projects under STS 2010 and were not accepted by ICMR are being given an opportunity to complete their projects and submit the same for consideration under Manipal University UG student research grant. The completed project should be written in a Standard Style, comprising Title page, Introduction Review of Literature, Aims and Objectives, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Summary and References. A copy of approval letter from Time bound Research Ethics Committee should be enclosed. The project report should be submitted through one guide and HOD with a cover letter addressed to the Dean, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore before 31.01.2011.

ANNOUNCEMENT FOR STS 2011
1.      On behalf of Dr VM Katoch, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research and Secretary, Department of Health Research, applications are invited from interested undergraduate medical students to participate in the Short Term Studentship Program (STS 2011).
2.      The Indian Council of Medical Research initiated the Short Term Studentship Program in 1979 in order to promote interest and aptitude for research among medical undergraduates. The main objective of this program is to provide an opportunity to undergraduate medical students to familiarize themselves with research methodology and techniques by being associated for a short duration with their seniors on ongoing research program or by undertaking independent projects. This may serve as an incentive for them to take up research as a career in the future. The Institution must provide the student with all facilities for carrying out research.
3.      During the last 31 years, medical undergraduate students of various medical colleges in the country have shown keen interest in Council’s Short Term Research Studentship (STS) program.  The Council has decided to continue this program by awarding limited number of studentships to deserving undergraduate students during the vacations for the year 2011.
4.      The student is required to register ONLINE by 10th January 2011, submit the application form and proposal online latest by 25th January 2011 which will be evaluated by the Council. Results will be announced in March 2011 and list of selected students displayed on the website. If selected, the student is expected to complete the project in any two given months between April and September 2011 and submit the report before the last date of submission i.e. 15th September, 2011. The student will be awarded stipend and certificate only if his/ her report is approved.
5.      The value of the studentship will be Rs. 5,000/- per month for 2 months’ duration (Rs. 10,000/- only) and is meant to be a stipend for the student.
