R.I.P. Ebert.

Roger Ebert is no more.

His was the only movie reviews that I read and for most past agreed to.

I have many of his books and like his reviews, the books were remarkable for the clarity of thought and fearless expression of his opinions. I used to love his reviews of the movies for which he gave 0 or 1 star – extremely critical but always humorous.

It was surprising that he was a movie screenwriter and wrote some of the “worst” B-grade movies including Beyond the Valley of the Ultra Vixens and Beyond the valley of the dolls. Both very funny, very sleazy, perfect.

The other thing that I remember about him is the movie appreciation workshop that I attended at University of Pennsylvania. There were more than 200 people. There was a large open area with good projection and good sound. Roger Ebert sat in the middle next to the projector and the DVD player.

And we watched Raging Bull for 8  hours a day for 3 days. It is a 130 minute film. What an experience! I still remember the film as if I lived the life of Jake and Joey. I still remember dialogues like “If you win, you win. if you lose, you still win”. Big movie fan because of him. 2 big thumbs up for RE.
