Obscure Vitality -3. Vital Obscurity – Kanika Mishra

Dust:-shading skies, devouring breeze, engulfing breath
Fire:-swarming streams, gutting oceans, charring blood
Snow:-sheltering houses, freezing life, awning love
Weeping woods, drooping mountains, deserts in flood.

Masks people wear

Barren, the land leaks.
Tears inhabit the abyss
Where roots of life once proliferated.
Souls, hunched together, peep through the imperfections
Bleeding, fading, shriveling, cold
At the shallow armors that once were home.
Living but not alive,
Seeing though unaware
Listening without hearing,
Hollow, naked, bare.

The solitary leaf rustles, dries, falls
Burying with it the yester-years
All the tales of love, of hope, of verve
Of days fair, of merry, of harmless fears.

“We are but made of the earth,
To earth we shall return”
We’re dust now, beaten by the wind
We wander, hopeless, we twist, we turn.
We’re immortal
We’re infinite
We’re forever
We’re barely alive.

(You’re living your life)
Magnets Abhilasha Kumar 2The Substance worked
Soothed the pain
Clenched the hurt, numbed your senses
Until it all came rushing back again.

The box stays in the corner,
Your sorrows shriek within
Waging a war with the chemical
You don’t let them win.

Your warrior is your parasite.
And you, its high, happy host.

(He’s a successful man)
He makes machines
The machines make him
He is a machine now
The machines are him.

(She’s the picture of joy)
She’s in love.
Her lover is green.
He was born in a paper factory.
In banks most his life he’s been.

(They’re today, they’re now, and they’re us)
They’re all living, not alive.
Seeing though unaware
Listening without hearing,
Hollow, naked, bare.

“We are but made of the earth,
To earth we shall return”
We’re dust now, beaten by the wind
We wander, hopeless, we twist, we turn.
We’re immortal
We’re infinite
We’re forever
We’re barely alive.
