There are many people who think that exercise is just another fad, but in reality fitness has become a national obsession. Some people believe that they must spend a lot of money to get in shape, but it is probably just another excuse.

Of course, if you plan to join a health club or fitness center, then it will be expensive; but you really don’t have to do that because there are many colleges and programs that offer free activity classes such as: dance, weight training, volleyball, basketball, jogging, body dynamics, racquetball, swimming, and many more.

Since the colleges usually let you use their equipment, you probably only need a T-shirt, shorts and a pair of good sports shoes. Now, buying the proper shoes may be expensive, but it sure is a good investment that pays off in the long run. Wearing the wrong shoes over a period of time may lead to serious injuries.

The fact that people are dashing toward fitness as never before is a plus for this nation. Most adults in the India lead a stressful and sedentary life, but exercising regularly helps to calm nerves, increases blood circulation, and sometimes it even helps to suppress appetite.

Exercise for the Weighty

There is a great variety of good exercises available to us that we can choose from. Some people enjoy jogging while others like more exciting co-ed or team sports. There are also those who prefer a more strenous form of excersise such as: weight training, aerobics, racquetball, marathon running, bicycling. Karate, etc.

There is also dancing, roller skating, swimming and other activities for the people who like to get their exercise in a more fun and enjoyable way. Even the ones who don’t like to exercise at all can walk their way to fitness. Walking is an excellent exercise, especially for beginners and for older people.

The safest way to get in shape and avoid possible injuries is to do it slowly and to choose a good exercise program that we can follow on a regular basis. In exercising as well as in dieting, moderation is a must.

Keeping up the exercise program is an achievement in itself, but we must also try to eat a variety of foods that are both nutritious and healthy.

The best way to accomplish that is by eating from the basic four food groups. They are: meat and meat substitutes (2 servings), milk and milk products (2 servings), fruits and vegetables (4 servings), and whole grain breads and cereals (4 servings) and at least six to eight glasses of water daily. If we follow the basic four food groups we usually don’t get more than 1200 calories a day, and that is the number of calories that many nutritionists recommend for the average person who wants to loose weight and keep it off.

The key to keep up a good exercise program and a well-balanced diet is motivation. If you decide to start exercising do it now; there is no better time than summer to shape up.

You will not only look better, but you will also feel healthier. Checking with your doctor before you start your diet and your favorite form of exercise is very important, especially for people who have health problems like asthma, heart trouble and other ailments.
