Department of Statistics, Manipal University, Manipal will be conducting a series of 10 lectures on the topic of Matrix Theory and its Applications – I from February 12 to April 30, 2011 on every Saturday (Excluding holidays) at 9:30 am – 11:30 am.

Speaker: Dr. K. Manjunatha Prasad ; Professor, Department of Statistics, Manipal University.

Target Audience:
All interested researchers/faculty of Manipal University and nearby institutions already working or plan to work in any area, applying Matrix Theory, Generalized Inverse and Algebraic Graph Theory may benefit from these lectures. Interested masters’ level students with basic knowledge of matrix theory are also invited.

Date: Every Saturday excluding holidays
Time: 9.30 AM – 10.30 AM
Every lecture is followed by discussion for 1 Hr (10.30 – 11.30)

Venue: R.A. Fisher Hall, Department of Statistics, 6th Floor, Health Science Library Building, MU, Manipal
Contents: The present series of lecture shall focus on theory of Generalized Inverse of a Matrix and its Applications.

Starting from the definition of g-inverse, we discuss on

(i) Types of g-inverses such as Moore-Penrose inverse, Drazin inverse and outer inverses
(ii) g-inverse of different types of matrices
(iii) Properties, Construction and applications
(iv) Partial order on matrices, Schur Compliments and Shorted Operator
