Its not BJP vs Congress this time. Its definately NaMo vs rest. While BJP seems to be playing its trump card and putting its best foot forward, Congress still is contemplating and is busy regaining its lost ground, mixing caution and aggression. While BJP knows the only way out is Narendra Modi, not many would be surprised if Congress delays its scion Rahul Gandhi once again – as has been the case with Congress for long. Who can ever forget that magical evening when in 2004 Mrs. Sonia Gandhi named Dr Manmohan Singh as her pick for the top job. Hello madam!! People voted for you. They want to see you as their leader. They lay their trust on you while they chose Congress over BJP. I wouldn’t let Mrs Sonia walk away with the tag of martyr for the same reason. However we Indians have the tendency of unduly glorifying the Gandhi family.
Congress thinktank knows full well that Rahul is no magician with a magic wand. Too much is expected out of junior Gandhi and they can’t let the bubble blast. People cant see Sonia fail and similarly they know the masses can’t take it when Rahul announces even a price rise or even advocates for it. Instead you see a Digvijay singh and a Kapil Sibbal speaking in media and doing all the talking over all the major issues while Mrs Sonia and Mr Rahul Gandhi keep mum over all the major issues and stay on the sidelines- be it the CWG scam, 2G scam, cross border terrorism, Chinese infiltration, price rise or a bomb blast. While Rahul stays in a cocoon that the party has designed, people still wait endlessly to hear from their leaders.
Its really strange how the trick seems to be working pretty well for the Congress till now. But not any more. We Indians are not interested to hear from a certain Renuka Chaudhry or Mr Sibbal. We simply want to see how Rahul feels about most of the issues. And shockingly the Congress scion has sparked up quite a few controversies whenever he has been quoted. “Poverty being a state of mind….” to be the latest. In the recent times we all know Rahul has drawn plenty of criticism over his so called childish remarks. While BJP is riding high on its NaMo wave, Congress knows Rahul Gandhi is not the Man of the Moment as of now.
However janta still is JANARDAN in Indian democracy, all the candidates will be thoroughly scrutinised and whatever they say will be wrought down in the memory of the electorates. While Modi seems to be hitting out hard and striking a chord with the masses, Congress is still to unleash its armoury.
Lets hope the Congress lets the bubble blast this time around.
