How often do we blame others for the things that are wrong with the world today? Be it the rising pollution, the depleting fuel resources, or the water shortage we face every year.
It is natural human tendency to wash our hands of errors/mistakes and blame others for the worsening situation, be it the environment or even the changes we see in our lives that are not positive.
This post is about #thegoodyoucan be when you take small measures to create awareness and benefit others. These small measures, though look like they aren’t going to change much, can produce a butterfly effect and result in a mammoth change that may benefit every other living being on this beautiful planet called Earth!
I remember in my childhood, we had to write an essay on things that will help reduce the water wastage that takes place. I remember, being proud of the fact that we, as Indians, by using a bucket and mug to take our bath, saved more water than those people who used showers while bathing. I am happy that I still do it even today. However, the increasingly upward Indian, the newly rich, may not be doing it anymore, instead they may have moved to the shower system.
A simple way to reduce the water scarcity is to shift back to the traditional bucket and mug system that not only saves water but also is more efficient way of bathing, at the same time you can even examine your body daily for changes that may warrant a visit to the hospital.
Same goes for the way we use the western toilets today. The Indian toilet is better suited to conserve water (2 litres vs 10 litres) and is much heathier for your gut and abdomen too!

The above video by the good people at 100 Pipers and Pernord Ricard is a series of videos that depict little things we can do in our day-to-day lives that can make a huge impact on our planet!
I still remember my schooling days when we were imparted civic education and moral science classes. Do we not remember those or do we remember but choose to ignore, just because it is fashionable to do so?
Just a small list of what each of us can do to help each other make a positive impact:
- Reduce/Reuse – paper bags are better
- Recycle – don’t throw it in the trash, send it to the recycling station
- Drive less and more efficiently – cycle to work, use a carpool, walk, use public transport
- Save energy – switch off when not in use
- Use eco-friendly food – organics
- Take action online and offline – spread the awareness!
If you’re ever wondering what to do with your life, you can do a lot worse than just follow these instructions.
Do all the good you can.
By all the means you can.
In all the ways you can.
In all the places you can.
At all the times you can.
To all the people you can.
As long as ever you can.
