Top 20 Engineering colleges of India, their score in placements & academics

Like always, Indian Institutes of Technology rule the roost when it comes to the rankings of the best engineering colleges of the country. As per a survey by India Today, IIT-Kanpur bags the first position on the list of the country’s best institutions for technical education. Due to academic excellence, world-class faculty, placements and a friendly atmosphere, IIT Kanpur is the number one technical institute of the country. Every year, the India Today publishes rankings of the best colleges in various fields such as engineering, medicine, law, MBA, etc.

However, what is disheartening is the fact that despite being featured as the top institutes of the country, they’re still a long way from being world-class institutions. Unfortunately, none of the IITs figure in the top 25 world university ranking for engineering and technology. These institutes of excellence have faced several criticism in the past as their research standards have deteriorated over the years.

Methodology of Survey: India Today partnered with The Nielsen Company to pick the best colleges of the country in various streams. A comprehensive list of more than 1500 colleges was drawn for various streams. Then the list was given to a panel of experts with a structured questionnaire. The experts were then asked to distribute 100 points amongst five parameters – Reputation of Colleges, Quality of Academic Input, Student Care, Infrastructure and Job Prospects. After collating their individual responses, weightage of each of these parameters was arrived at.
