Psychology Dissertation

A thesis paper is a product of an intellectual endeavor. A psychology dissertation combines mental agility with creativity to come up with a loaded question. The likes of Sigmund Freud who opened the floodgates for more research in psychology, challenged many graduate or doctorate students to refute or confirm earlier studies, as well as come up with newer and fresher ideas. Psychology deals with the human mind and human/animal behavior; plunging into a dissertation of this discipline is a really something to think about – hard and well. A graduate student should have the right frame of research mind when starting out, even when deciding on the dissertation topic.

There is no need to panic when deciding the core discussion for a thesis. The adviser is around to facilitate the smooth start of the research for the paper. There may be an available list of topics that students can choose from. In reality, all graduate students are aware that they have to face the eventuality of writing a thesis to earn the masteral or doctoral degree. The panic is caused by the enormity of the project at hand, and the meticulous research that goes with. Years of graduate school will prepare students for research and writing, but not all students have the time or the stamina for an intense psychology paper.

For a good psychology thesis a student goes through a series of activities that are all equally time-consuming and stressful. He will be required to choose a topic, write the different chapters, finish the paper on time, and defend the paper against all attacks that can be conceived by the committee. As he goes through all these processes, he has to do hours of reading, writing, reviewing, revising, and studying the dissertation. Perhaps as he goes along, the entire study is assimilated slowly and surely. His enthusiasm will determine the successful presentation of his dissertation – in form and in content.

Perhaps, the motivating factor that will make a student stick to his labors is his unbridled interest to present new and interesting discoveries. This passion will be reflected in the forceful content of this psychological write-up. The birth of a new idea is something he foresees as his personal contribution to the research community. He can already preview a scramble to refute or confirm his assertions because he has chosen a topic that has continued to perplex the human mind. Here the student is not merely working for a degree; he is working as a serous researcher.

The style of his psychological dissertation follows the APA or American Psychology Association editorial format – this is important because there are specifications for fonts and fonts’ sizes for general content and citations or references. How tables or graphs should be structured is also specified. He should also observe the proper choice of words to eliminate any biases that may creep into his paper. He does not want any grievance filed against his paper. It would spoil his success.
