Everybody makes mistakes. Elementary schoolteachers will tell you there is nothing wrong with mistakes. That is why pencils come with erasers! Unfortunately, life is written in ink. Fixing a mistake is not as easy as rubbing it out and trying again. How we manage our mistakes can make the difference between living a full life or sinking into regret.
Time is Short
Time is a trickster. When we are young, it seems to drag by like a slug, and then before we know it, we have children of our own. Life starts rocketing by. In the words of Ferris Bueller, “If you blink, you might miss it.” Time lulls us into a false sense of security when we are young, making us believe there is plenty time to finish our plans. Then we wake up one day to realize that time is short, we are aging and still have not lived our dreams.
Stop Making Excuses
It is easy to make excuses for putting off your dreams. There is always some matter that needs attending, laundry to do, work to be done. We keep a running to-do list in our heads, urging us constantly forward. The list blinds us to the life that is all around us. It is time to throw that list away! There will always be more chores to do and the list is not actually helping you carry out anything.
Complaining about the way things are instead of doing something about them is just another way of saying, “I’m not worth the effort”. If you do not care enough about yourself to change for the better, how can you ever expect to help the people you love? It is time to sit down and make a plan. Figure out what steps you need to take to get the life you want. Imagine yourself in your new life. Stop telling yourself you cannot do it. You can.
It is All There Waiting for You
God gives us everything we need to live happy lives. It is up to us to find those resources and use them to complete God’s hopes for us. When we fail to use the tools He gives us, we are throwing away precious gifts. Your dreams are God’s plan for you. He planted those dreams in your spirit so you would be motivated to do His will. The genius of this arrangement is that your free will and God’s will for you are the same thing. If God is with you, who can be against you? If you do not feel strong enough on your own to carry out your dreams, try to remember that you are not alone. God is always right there with you.
