General super8 camera tips

Be sure the camera can expose the film correctly; different cameras have differing abilities to expose some types of film.

If the film to be used has been refrigerated be sure to let it warm up slowly to room temperature prior to use.

To judge correct focus, zoom the lens into the subject, adjust focus, and then zoom out to the desired focal distance.

In most circumstances 18 frames per second is fine. For fast action or quick sideways panning, 24 frames per second is recommended. Either way check with your choice of transfer house to see if this will be an issue.

Always use an external exposure meter independent of the camera’s exposure meter. Due to the unavailability of correct voltage watch batteries to suit the camera requirements, modern batteries are substituted with an error allowance of up to one Fstop over or under exposed.
