Madras (Tamil) Movie Review:
Our Score: 33/50
Genre: Drama | Romance
Cast: Karthi, Catherine Tresa, …
Music: Santhosh Narayanan
Direction: Pa.Ranjith
After the critical and commercial success of #Attakatthi comes Madras! Does Ranjith spin magic again?
The plot is about a wall in a housing board complex and about to whom it belongs. The life of middle class citizens in Madras/Chennai is shown beautifully with so much of reality. But yes, there is a lot of commercialism as well!
Karthi, after a bunch of flops and bad movies, is back with a good performance here. His down-to-earth characterization suits him very well, and he does a good job.
Catherine Tresa looks beautiful (mainly in the first half) but her lip-sync is mostly bad. Her acting is okay.
The supporting cast, especially Karthi’s friend, does a good job too.
Santhosh Narayanan spins magical tunes for the movie. “Naa Nee” is simply beautiful, and well shot. BGM is also worthy.
Cinematography and editing are above average.
Ranjith takes a thin storyline and concentrates more on characterization and screenplay which works wonders. There are very minimal boring scenes, thanks to the swift screenplay and good music.
On the whole, a realistic film with sensible commercial elements, not-very-perfect but interesting!
Our Rating:

Performance – 7/10
Screenplay – 7/10
Music – 7/10

Overall – 33/50
