All over the world, the global fashion sector has gained the prominence of being one of the most important sectors of the economy in terms of investment, revenue, trade and employment generation. In past decade Indian fashion industry has gained international acclaim and recognition at several global forums with its unique ability of blending Indian and International designs. Looking at the growing fashion sector, Manipal University is launching One Year Certificate Program in Fashion Design and Information technology. The curriculum ls planned at par with the Industrial requirement with an aim of fostering the fashion education towards reaching excellence. By offering a well-balanced education In a supportive environment, we are developing the 21st century workforce.

Professional fashion education and training have assumed significant. importance due to the contribution of the Industry towards employment generation and the export earnings of the country. The government of India in its report have envisioned rapid growth of the fashion sector from its present level to provide employment to a large number of skilled professionals.
- Design studios are available with the ambiance and atmosphere that nurtures the students to think and create designs inventively. These studios are equipped with drawing boards and are used for project work, tutorials, general study and discussion.
- A full-fledged computer laboratory is equipped with work stations to work on Corel Draw and Photoshop for portfolio presentation.
- The garment and fabric pattern laboratory is equipped with sewing machines and dress forms to create patterns for unique designs.
The objectives of the Course are:
- To impart professional fashion education
- To conceptualise fashion
- To integrate IT and fashion
- To modernise and upgrade industry practices
Apart from vigorous in-depth fashion studies which equip the students with detailed fabric knowledge, fashion illustration, pattern making construction, the students would also be involved in creating their line of garments and conducting the fashion shows.
Eligibility: 10+2 or its equivalent examination from a recognized board.
Fee structure:
Admission and Registration fees – Rs 1500
Tuition fee — Rs 30,000/annum {including examination fees etc.)
Duration of the Program :
It is of one year duration with two semesters. Each semester wlll have sixteen weeks.
