What Triggers Procrastination?

Procrastination. It almost sounds like a dirty word, or maybe even constipation. Yeah, that’s it, procrastination is constipation of the mind! Procrastination, or constipation of the mind, gives one a feeling of obnoxiousness because you’re constantly being reminded of the unpleasant condition being present, but you can’t seem to do anything about it.

All of us have experienced procrastination at one point, if not many, in our daily lives, and that is a fact no one can deny. Like everything else, it affects some of us more than others A few who are strong-willed and determined people, can control this disease by keeping it at a minimal level.

What Triggers Procrastination?

Procrastination a serious problem

Some. unfortunately, are overwhelmed by procrastination. When this happens, you have a serious problem on your hands which should be dealt with face-to-face and not denied or dismissed as a petty little thing. Procrastination is an ongoing, continuous cycle which usually begins when a person is given a task to carry out in a specific length of time. What follows from this point on is known by each and every one of us. You say something like, “Ah, what the hell, I’ve got plenty of time . . . think I’ll do it tomorrow or later on.” Tomorrow turns into today and you continue to put whatever it is you were supposed to until the next day, and the next day, and so on and so forth.

Last minute panic

Until finally, you’ve left everything for the last minute once again and you’re now panic-stricken and flustered because you know it is absolutely positively impossible to accomplish the task in a fraction of the time you were originally given. The tremendous pressure is so great, that you are hopelessly overwhelmed with frustration. Your weary nerves buckle, after which, you completely fall apart into worthless little pieces. Your futile attempt was a miserable failure and as a result, you feel like kicking yourself in the ass, and you would if you could but your foot can’t reach that far back. Then, you feel like a moron and you curse yourself for letting such an asinine thing happen in the first place. To top it all off, you feel so negatively about the matter that you put off thinking about correcting the problem because you automatically get a severe headache at the mere mention of it.

Trapped in a Vicious Cycle

Before you know it, the cycle has repeated itself once again and you feel like you’re trapped in a ceaseless revolving door which is making you unbearably obnoxious and nauseated.

The next logical question would be. what triggers this vicious cycle? It could be many things really, but the most common are lack of interest, lack of self-motivation, laziness, lethargy and apathy. And the negative by-products range from pressure, stress, anxiety and internal frustration. Procrastination, or constipation of the mind, whichever you prefer, is a self-defeating dilemma which knows not intelligence, ability or potential. It doesn’t matter if you possess any of these qualities if you also suffer from constipation of the mind, they are of no use to you.

How do I know this? Simple, I happen to be an expert on the subject. You want to hear a joke? My failure to prepare myself for my class prompted me to write this. I simply had to get this off my chest and I did so by intellectually analyzing my problem and writing it on paper where I could better assess the situation.
