Picking clothes for your body type isn’t always easy, as many people don’t actually know their body type. That’s why it’s important to determine your body shape and type before you start spending your hard-earned money on new clothes. Once you learn more about yourself, you’ll be able to choose the clothes that actually fits you and highlight the positives while also covering your flaws. As you probably know, there are five main body types: apple, pear, rectangular, inverted triangle, and hourglass, and each one of them has specific dos and don’ts when it comes to choosing the right outfits.
Apple-shaped body type
This body type is characterized by being thick in the middle, and those who have it also usually have skinny arms and legs and slightly bigger sections around the belly. So, in order to steer the attention away from the mid-section, it’s recommended to accentuate your shoulders, hips, and legs. In order to create an impression of width, it’s recommended to wear off-shoulder styles, printed dresses, and flowy tops, and make sure to avoid anything that accentuates your middle part such as thick belts.
Pear-shaped body type
Pear-shaped bodies are distinguished by full hips and thighs, small bust, a defined waist and shoulders that are narrower than hips. Therefore, you should look for clothes that are suitable, such as wide-legged trousers and A-line skirts. Similarly, high-waisted jeans will accentuate your waist, while skinny jeans with looser top will create the impression of a more hourglass figure. On the other hand, you should definitely avoid clothes that draws attention to your hips, such as low-rise jeans and trousers and drop-waist dresses.
Hour-glass body type
If you have this body type, you can comfortably call yourself lucky, yet there are still certain things you should avoid in order to make the best of your natural beautiful body shape. As you can probably see, hourglass-shape is marked by very defined waist, fuller bust and rounded buttocks. So, when choosing clothes, it’s best to stick to anything that shows your natural waistline, such as romantic retro rockabilly dresses that have almost any type of neckline. Also, feel free to wear belts and body-hugging clothes, since you definitely have a body to flaunt. Still, it’s important to mention that wearing clothes that’s too casual will make you look chunkier than you actually are.
Rectangular body type
If your body type is rectangular, that means that your waistline, hips, shoulders and chest are all about the same size. Additionally, you’re probably well-proportioned and look like an athlete even if you’re not into sports at all (lucky you!). So, the best clothes to focus on would be layered A-line skirts and necklines that can add some weight to the upper part of your body. Since your limbs are probably lean, that means you can freely rock sleeveless and strapless shirts without worrying that you’ll look too fat. On the contrary, try to stay away from shapeless clothes with straight cut that won’t add anything to your figure. Yet, if you still want to wear an oversized graphic sweatshirts & hoodies, make sure to pair that with tight leggings and skinny jeans.
Inverted triangle body type
In case your body looks like this, that means that your upper part is wider than your hips and bottoms. Also, there’s probably little to no definition between your waist and your hips, and your shoulders are the widest part of your body. In order to focus the attention from your shoulders, you should opt for pencil skirts, skinny jeans and V-necklines. If possible, avoid wearing puffy sleeves or any details that draw attention to your upper part. Similarly, make sure to stay away from horizontal stripes as they will instead accentuate your shoulders, instead choose vertical stripes as they’ll look much better on you.
Choosing the right clothes for your shape is important since you’ll be more able to cover your imperfections while taking pride in everything that looks good. Feel free to experiment with different textures, colors and patterns, and in case you can’t determine whether something fits you, you can always consult a friend to help you choose the perfect clothes just for your body type.
