Guys think all girls are superficial, and to be honest, they are. But it’s not because they’re really superficial – it’s more like icing on the cake. I mean, please, it’s the same for guys, and probably more so. How often do you see good-looking girls dating not-so-good-looking guys, and how often do you see good-looking guys with not-so-good-looking girls? The former occurs much more often than the latter.
One of my guy friends once asked me what 3 material things a girl looks for in a guy, so I figured, most guys would like to know. The point is, when you first see a person, you don’t think, “Whoo! Check out that guy! He’s short, badly-dressed, and not so good-looking! That’s the one I’ve been waiting for!” So first impressions are a big thing, and when you can’t talk to a person to make that first impression, your outward appearance is going to do the job instead. And since not everyone is blessed with good genes, you can at least make the most of yourself by looking good if you’re not good-looking. And consciously or unconsciously, I can assure you that most women notice a few certain things about your appearance – sort of like a mental checklist. Not to say you’d discount someone because of these factors – these are just things I happen to notice. So here goes.
This is my list of things every guy should pay attention to in order to make that impressive, well, impression.
1. Shoes – Shoes are a big thing. No, not “you know what they say about a guy with big shoes…” but the shoes themselves. Guys are lucky because they only need 3 basic types: sneakers, dress shoes, and sandals.
a. Sneakers – Now, you can go out there and buy as many pairs of sneakers as you want, but if you’re going to meet girls with them on, at least wear a nice, clean pair! Personally, I like Adidas. But the point is, we don’t want to see any of your ratty old sneakers that have been worn to the sole.
b. Dress shoes – Guys should own at least one pair of dress shoes, and they always have to be in good condition. No pointy toes, no weird old-man types, and black is always the safest. You can find a lot of great inspiration online, and save money on nice shoes if you use a Jos A Bank discount code.
c. Sandals – Now, the only reason I put sandals on the list is because I have this aversion to those leather, Italian-type sandals that look almost girly. I’m a simple kind of girl, so I like flip flops on a guy. No clogs!!
2. Pants – Pants and Shirts should probably come as subsets under “Clothes” but I think good pants are more important than shirts, because a guy can be wearing a t-shirt, but if he’s wearing some tapered pants, it’s over. Did you hear me? Tapered pants?! Over?! Not too baggy, but baggy enough – either way, I don’t want to see your ass hanging out or outlined. I just like pants that “hang” really well. I can’t describe it any other way. Ask one of your female friends what I mean if you don’t know. Sidebar: Although the shirt is not as important, try not to wear tight shirts or wife-beaters, and please please please don’t ever wear flannel. Flannel’s for lumberjacks.
3. Watch – Your watch may seem like a tiny, insignificant, little thing, but trust me, it makes a big impression. If I see a guy with a calculator on his watch, or big digital numbers on a wristband that reminds of my Swatch/6th grade years, I cringe. You don’t want to go there. It doesn’t have to be expensive either, just…nice. Besides, it’s a watch so it’s a good investment and will probably not go out of style (unless you buy those funky, trendy ones instead of a classic one). Another sidebar: Excessive jewelry is a big big no-no…Maybe one necklace, a ring, an earring – all only if you must.
Addendum: This is supposed to be about physical things, not emotional. I’m not an idiot. I realize that even if the guy impresses me outwardly, he could be 1) really self-absorbed/too high-maintenance; 2) an a**hole; or 3) gay – obviously wouldn’t want to be with any of these guys. Also, about good hygiene and good hair (eyes, teeth, smile, etc.) – sorry, I thought the former would be assumed and the latter didn’t technically fall under material things.
its really the best..
