A Smile Goes a Mile

An outward sign of happiness, excitement, joy, love, appreciation, satisfaction, a smile can be any of these. It lasts on your face for a fraction of a second, but it starts a wave of happiness within you. It creates a positive environment full of joy, care, hope, and peace.

Joy and smile go hand in glove. It is not joy alone that is the source of your smile; sometimes, it works the other way around. Your smile can be the source of your joy. The best thing you could and should do to shift to a brighter mood is to start smiling. Of course, this is what science says, too.

Smiling reduces stress, helps the immune system work better, relieves pain and so on. A brief smile during stress may help to reduce the intensity of the body’s stress response, regardless of whether a person really feels happy. All in all, a smile is a very effective natural remedy, even those who are sick should be cheerful for a speedy recovery.

Charlie Chaplin rightly said, “We must laugh in the face of our helplessness against the forces of nature – or go insane.”

Smiling can trick your brain into believing that you are genuinely happy. This, in turn, can spur actual feelings of happiness. In a sense, the brain is a sucker for a grin. It is least bothered to differentiate whether you’re smiling because you’re genuinely joyous, or because you’re just pretending. Hereon, all you got to do is fake it (trying to make it as real as possible) till you make it. If you decide to smile to help yourself feel better, try to make it real for yourself—it will also come across as real to others. Go in search of your inner reservoir of happiness and gratitude, find it and smile from within.

Smiles are contagious. This is one of the superpowers of a genuine smile. You not only elevate your mood but also lift the spirits of those around you. Just keep spreading smiles! It instantly warms relationships and sends a vibe of positivity. Your friends will surely thank you for this, in their hearts. A smile just works wonders. By adding to your charm, it, instantaneously, makes you seem smart, courteous and likable.

However your day may be going, try avoiding negative emotions by smiling them off. Face each day with a smile; sunshine will, surely, appear.
