Robot, a programmed machine, capable of doing complex works easily by its own. Nowadays, robots can be easily seen in different industries and even at homes, controlled by humans using a control system which may be outside the robot or may be embedded internally. There are many accounts of these automated devices, from ancient times to present, and are going to be as a regular members of the coming future.
The robot term came from the Czech word “robota” which means “forced labor”. The term was first used in a Czech play R.U.R in 1920, by Karel Capek, to describe a machine with an appearance resembling humans , simply called as humanoid, in the fiction. In the year 1948 William Grey Walter, of the Burden Neurological Institute at Bristol, created the first electronic autonomous robot which can do several complex tasks. Earlier robots were controlled with the external remote control, but today they are automated. Their control system is internally embedded with their circuit and they are programmed to get access to to control themselves for different tasks.
Robots are the machines designed to decrease the workloads on humans, to do the complex jobs which humans might not do, to amuse humans in their leisure. But today, robots are taking over humans in all fields. They are faster than humans in industries. The capabilities of robots have evolved well beyond the simplicity of industrial works. From small works at homes to the huge risky works in battlefields and hospitals, robots are well improving their works and rapidly becoming a fixture in our lives.
From single tasking industrial robots to the first robot citizen in the world, Sophia, robots are becoming the future of science. Today, the robotic innovations are not just focused on the evolution of industrial robots but the world is also focusing on the evolution of humanoid robots. Does it mean that we are going to create future humans? A question might be answered in near future.
There is also a common fear attached to the robotic evolution. Will robots take over humans and their jobs? Well, it might be possible that robots would be working in different sectors as our co-workers. But with the evolution in robotics, a new market of artificial intelligence will be open with the new opportunities for humans. That means, however robots will evolve with new features and skills, humans will be its controllers, and humans will be its developer.
