Oh, to be like you!

Is there anyone in your life, or maybe someone you do not know, that you admire very much?

Recognizing role model qualities in someone else, and using that as a yardstick, is one good way to enhance your self growth.

Do I have a role model? Yes I do. The thing is that I have never met my mentor. But for years I have admired her from afar. By observing her over the years, and keeping track of her progress and success, I have been able to hold on to my dream at those times when I came close to giving up.

This is not the only contributing factor to my holding on, but it sure helps to know that someone else has accomplished what I dream about. What better way to learn about the thing you want to do, than through or from the person who is doing it, and doing it well!

Now, I am not saying that we have to go and change everything about ourselves, and be exactly like someone else. Far from it. I am saying, though, that we can use the positive things, the things we admire in someone else, to motivate and inspire us to become and accomplish that which we dream about.Role Models

We can learn by observing our role model. We can choose to emulate those special qualities if only to develop them in ourselves. To become successful in any field, we would do well to emulate someone who performs in that particular area with all the prowess of a successful person.

So, you may say that you do not know anybody that you admire, respect, or that you can consider to have role model qualities. As I mentioned before, I do not know my role model personally, but I honestly believe that by observing, I was able to gather a lot of knowledge and information which I consider to be of great benefit to me in the pursuit of my dreams, passion and purpose.

So, maybe, (if you think you need one that is) you can seek to find a role model.

Of course, this leads me to a related area, and that is the very marked absence (seemingly) of role models for our youths. Everywhere I turn, there seems to be endless lamenting about this. Parents cry out at what is offered as part of the “pie” for our youths to choose from.

Dress codes, material possessions, music mania and obscenities as normal everyday language are all our young people seem to be interested in. This is what has some parents literally holding their heads and crying. This is another story in itself. But maybe those of us who do not believe that we need role models can probably become one.

I rather like the big brother, big sister concept practised in the United States where some young people have someone to look up to, admire and who will contribute to their future in positive ways—because the big brothers/sisters have chosen to give in this very admirable way.

So, once again I have thrown out a challenge or two. To all of us. We should all be on a path of empowerment, self-improvement and upliftment. Seeking to live a wholesome life, contributing to the lives of others as well.

Maybe we can accomplish all this by either finding a role model, or being one!

Be blessed!
