Chennai Express did not derail and was not late.

I indulged in a scientific experiment today. Experiment was to find out if Chennai Express works or not. I had to decide it for myself. So I thought I will do a designed experiment. To address the sample size question I went myself(not a big fan of SRK or DP) with Wife (big fan of SRK), Son (impatient 7-year-old) and daughter (does not like anything Indian except Katrina and her foreign accent).

I also wanted to prove that Chennai Express does not work. Like a true scientist, the null hypothesis had to be set as Ho: Chennai Express works and the data generated should give enough evidence to reject Ho. Alternative Hypothesis was set as Ha: Chennai Express does not work.

Data collected was as such:-

For Null Hypotheses

  1. Even in its fourth week, the theater was full.
  2. All four of us left the cinema hall smiling.
  3. For me the smile with occasional loud laugh lasted the 3 hours.
  4. Deepika Padukone was sensational and mein bhi abh uski tarah bolne lagi hoon.
  5. SRK was irritatingly funny.
  6. Highlight for me was Rohit Shetty’s direction. There are two directors whose slow motion scenes are legendary – Martin Scorsese and John Woo. Next in line is Rohit.
  7. I did not sleep in the movie ( a very important data point).
  8. Way better than Ra-one and Don 2.
  9. Aam aadmi thread and national integration theme were good.
  10. Internal Bollywood references bought a chuckle in the cinema hall.

Against Null Hypotheses

  1. Too long.
  2. Vishal Shekhar’s music was sub-standard and lungi dance song was pathetic.
  3. SRK was irritatingly funny.
  4. Personal bias against SRK.
  5. Son struggled to sit through the 3+ hours.

Based on the above I have to conclude that the evidence against the null hypotheses was not strong enough. Hence have to accept the null hypotheses.

I say go and watch it. Chennai Express works.
