Top 5 Things You Can Do in this Winter Break

Making Use of the Vacation

1. Awaken the morning person within you

After pulling massive all-nighter streaks during exams, give your system the much-needed break this vacation by adopting a healthy sleep pattern. Start by having a light dinner and sleeping early, preferably before 12. Boring as it sounds, this will prevent fatigue and laziness from setting in, in the morning. Get at least eight hours of uninterrupted sleep and ensure good ventilation in your room. Set a pleasant alarm tone and most importantly, do not snooze. Give yourself that mental push to get out of bed. Get some fresh air, stand in your balcony, terrace or garden and breathe for a while. Just making these few changes will get you feeling happy and energetic for the entire day. You will be able to focus better on your tasks and overall be more productive. Venture towards becoming an early riser and give your lifestyle a turn towards the positive.

2. Take a solo trip

Travelling alone gives you the chance to indulge in yourself fully. The best part about it is that there aren’t many confinements with it. Trying out taking a solo trip during this winter break can be the best reward way to reward yourself. Right from planning your budget to actually making the plans work, you are all to yourself. Getting to meet new people and see new places and discovering yourself in the course is pure bliss. Some great places to go for a solo trip are Udaipur, Shimla, Manali, Rishikesh, Pudducherry, Dharamshala, Khajurao, Coorg, Bodh Gaya and many more in the endless list. Opting for stays at Zostels or places like Backpackers Inn will give you some amazing experiences worth memorizing for a lifetime. Add adventure sports to the to-do list and you have stories to flaunt about.

3. Establish a fitness and diet routine

Given that our sleep cycle and diet have already been ramshackle because of the ‘all-nighters’ before exams and the delicious food from food courts, your winter break is the best time to rejuvenate your body and restore the toxin levels which Deetee, Remix, and Zeal have promoted. Taking up an outdoor game, going out cycling or for runs and taking a gym membership will ‘healthify’ you and energize you for the next semester. Cooking your own healthy meals taking into consideration the calorie and protein intakes is something that will keep you fit in the long run. Winter is the best time to develop good stamina, strength and built. You can also set for yourself a skin and hair care routine and if you ask what all this for, then it is because outer beauty is equally important as intelligence is otherwise libraries wouldn’t have been empty and gyms full of people. So lose that extra pound or maybe gain some and conspire with the next semester heat to burn your mates.

4. Learn a new skill

Explore. Experience. Expand.
One month is a solid time frame to add another twig to the pile. Learn a new skill, be it something professional or artistic. You can choose from the plethora of courses available online to learn to code, take up a new language, study history, philosophy, literature, math, Arduino programming and almost anything you might want to learn. Or you can sign up for courses around you, be it learning to play a new instrument, dance or even art classes. The easiest of all can be to learn to cook from your parents. Based on your preference, you can gain prowess in either a career related subject or a life skill, it doesn’t matter as long as you are opening up and exposing yourself to new experiences. This greatly helps in expanding your domain and is a great way to utilize your holidays by learning something that can come in handy in the future or shine on your CV.

5. Step out of your comfort zone

This winter, surprise yourself by doing something out of your comfort zone. May it be initiating a conversation with strangers, adopting a tech-savvy lifestyle, conquering a fear or being part of a flash mob, do something spontaneous. Not only does it boosts self-confidence but also helps you overcome your inhibitions and gets you familiar with uncomfortable situations. You will be better acquainted with yourself and will easily be able to stretch your boundaries in the future. Trying out having small talks with the annoying aunties at Christmas parties will be the best start. Go out to fetch groceries from the market, learn to bargain, try paying the bills. Stepping out of your comfort zones gives you a deeper insight into yourself which can potentially make you a beastly hermit, stronger outside and inside.
