Rural Health Care

Bodh-Gaya, 11 November, 2013

Health care is a basic necessity for every individual. Rural health care is one of the biggest challenges faced by the Indian government. A majority of 700 million of India’s population is based in rural areas. However, it is noted that 70 percent of this population receives health facilities of low standards.

Due to miserable health facilities and lack of hospitals, people in rural areas are prone to constant suffering and mortality rate is increasing day by day. People in villages are mostly approaching private hospitals due to lack of proper facilities in the government hospitals, but not all people in villages can afford treatments in private hospitals. In many villages transportation also acts as a major problem. Many villages do not have proper transportation to reach the hospitals.

The government has introduced many plans and schemes to improve health care facilities in rural areas, one such program is Rural Health Clinic (RHC). This program intends to increase the access to primary health care in rural areas. However, all these programs haven’t been completely effective due to loopholes in the implementation. Many NGOs and other organizations are also joining hands with the government to ensure the improvement of rural health care.

Access to good health care facilities plays a critical role in maintaining good health. By considering the scenario of health care in the Indian villages, we can conclude that there is a dire need to bring in measures to ensure that quality and timely healthcare is provided to every single person living in villages.
