If you’re pregnant, be sure to take care of your health. Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs and start taking folic acid to help make sure the health of your unborn child. Your doctor will tell you about the common symptoms of pregnancy, but the most common are as follows:
Nausea and vomiting
This usually starts two to 10 weeks after conception. The degree to which you feel sick varies from none to full-fledged vomiting. It’s normally called ‘morning sickness’ but can happen at any time of the day. It’s caused by hormonal changes in your body and usually stops after the third month of pregnancy.
This can start rather quickly after fertilization – one to two weeks after conception – and will most likely be with you your entire pregnancy.
This is also caused by hormonal changes and the growing uterus pressing against the bowel.
Darkening of areola
This can be one of the first symptoms to appear as early as one week after conception and then throughout pregnancy.
Exhaustion or feeling sleepy
This can start one to six weeks after conception and last your entire pregnancy.
You may experience this six to eight weeks after conception and it will be with you for your entire pregnancy. This is caused by hormonal changes and growing pressure on the bladder.
This is more common in the last months of pregnancy and results from changes in posture due to pregnancy.
– Excessive salivation, food cravings, and heightened sense of smell are gastrointestinal symptoms occurring as a result of hormonal changes during pregnancy.
– Headaches and migraines may increase.
– Lower abdominal cramps can be caused by fetal intake of calcium.
The symptoms mentioned above are generally physiological and most of the time you won’t need any medication for them. However, you should call your doctor to rule out other possibilities.
