All About CAT 2018

As per the official notification, the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta will conduct the Common Admission Test exam this year. CAT 2018 is scheduled to take place on November 25 in the online mode in two separate sessions. The exam is conducted every year by one of the 20 IIMs on a rotation basis. For instance, IIM Lucknow conducted the CAT exam in 2017, and this year, IIM Calcutta has been given the charge.

In addition to the IIMs, the leading software consulting services organization of India, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), assists in the coordination of CAT exam since 2014. CAT is undoubtedly known to be amongst one of the toughest entrance exams in our country.

The candidates qualifying this exam would be eligible for getting admissions to the management courses at 20 IIMs and over 100 reputed B-schools across our country. Other than the 20 IIMs, the top management colleges across the country which accept the CAT scores of the candidates include SPJIMR Mumbai, FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, JBIMS Mumbai, IMI New Delhi, IMT Ghaziabad, BIMTECH Greater Noida, TAPMI Manipal, GIM Goa, LIBA Chennai, Great Lakes Chennai, IFMR Chennai, XIM Bhubaneswar, and more.

The competition is indeed very tough and there is battle for every seat. It must be noted that at least two lac candidates have been appearing in CAT exam for the recent past years for just around 5000 seats at the 20 IIMs of our country. In 2017, this number had been around 2.31 lacs. However, this number is expected to be surpassed in 2018.

Tentative Schedule for CAT 2018

Although, the date of the CAT 2018 exam has been declared, the individual dates of the registration are not officially declared yet. However, there are predictions for the tentative dates, which are subject to change based on the discretion of the exam organizing committee, IIM-C.

The registrations will start from the first to second week of August 2018 (tentatively from August 09) through the official website of CAT. The eligible candidates will be able to register themselves for appearing in CAT 2018 from the registration opening date till the last date, which will be somewhere between the last week of September to the first week of October.

The candidates will also be required to pay registration fee while registering themselves for CAT 2018. The registration fee for the unreserved category candidates will be INR 1900 while that for the reserved category candidates will be INR 1000.

For those candidates who would be registering themselves successfully for CAT 2018, the admit card will be issued in the last week of October 2018. Once after the CAT 2018 exam will be held on November 25, 2018, its results will be declared in the first week of January 2019.

Post declaration of CAT 2018 Results, the qualifying candidates will be eligible for appearing in the Group Discussion (GD) and the Personal Interview (PI) rounds conducted by the individual IIMs. On clearing these rounds also, the candidates will be offered the admission to the management courses at those IIMs for the batch starting 2019.

CAT 2018 Registration

All those aspiring for CAT 2018 must register through the online mode only at the official website, i.e. iimcat.ac.in. The registration is usually a 4-step procedure. However, it must be noted by candidates that in case of wrong information submitted by them, not only their candidature shall remain invalid but also the application fee will remain forfeited. Have a look at the steps mentioned below in order to ensure a successful application.

  1. Visit the official website of CAT, i.e. iimcat.ac.in. and fill in the required details like email id, phone number and date of birth.
  2. You must fill the application form with all the correct personal details, contact information, academic details, work experience, program preference and exam centre preference.
  3. Further, scanned copies of your documents comprising photograph, signature and certificate need to be uploaded.
  4. Lastly, CAT Application Fee must be paid in the online mode via debit card/ credit card, and net banking.
