If you’re like me (think: Type A, rigidly organized) where basically everything in your life is defined by an agenda of some sort, this post is for you.
Having a set schedule not only plans out your day/week/month, but also identifies where you’re using your time. Work-life balance is all the rage today, especially with students juggling so much at such a young age. Class, work, internships, exercise, homework, and a social life are just some of the daily tasks we deal with; learning how to weigh each one is key to work-life balance and minimizing stress.
Here are five top practices to help you bring a little more balance into your life:
- Plan out your day. Reserve specific blocks out of each day, work, class, work, exercise, family, friends, etc.
- Cut out things that don’t add value to your life. Watching endless movies/TV Series on your laptop won’t get you anywhere, but visiting a close friend or hitting the gym does. Ask yourself, “what matters most in my life?”
- Avoid negativity. Whether it be a negative situation or person, even giving them 2 seconds out of your day can drain your energy.
- Take 5 for you. Be greedy, because we can’t take care of others if we’re not taking care of ourselves first.
Exercise is usually the first thing that’s pushed aside when things get busy. Block out 30 minutes of your day and devote it to some type of physical activity (the MARENA has plenty!).
