Onthe occasion of Independence Day, Palette of Design (POD), the official art and creative club of School of Communication (SOC), Manipal University displayed its installation art of the national bird, the peacock, in the SOC lobby at 11:30am, to bring to notice the decrease in number of peacocks in Udupi district and in the country due to deforestation.
The peacock was made out of waste materials such as plastic bottles and old newspapers, which promotes the idea of recycle and reuse of plastic, a non-biodegradable material, which helps in protecting our environment. Complementing the installation art was a tri-coloured rangoli made using environment-friendly colours that signified the patriotic essence of the day.
Both the art work and therangoli was a joint effort of the club members andwas supported by the director of SOC Dr.NandiniLakshmikantha, the faculty co-ordinator Dr.UnniKrishnan K and other faculty members of the institution.
POD members are looking forward to do more such social awareness programmes that can inspire both youth and society.
