Medical-Careers

So you have made up your mind to study in the medical field. This is exciting times for any student and you have to make sure you chose the right field. There are many choices out there and the decision will decide your future. It could be a happy future or a frustrating one. Many doctors are unhappy these days and some of it has to do with choosing the wrong field. You might like the idea of being a doctor but if you want to do something with passion, you need to love it. Let me tell you, medical school admissions are hard work alone and you should not waste your time applying for the wrong program.

We will try to help you make the right decision and field that suits you best.

  1. Research

Make sure you research all medical fields out there. If you find one that seems interesting to you, research a little further. You really cannot lose by equipping yourself with all the information possible. If by doing all the research you can handle, try to find someone who already works in that field. Interesting work is going on in medtech and should be something you can look forward to. This brings us to point number 2.

  1. Speak to someone in your selected field

Once you choose the field that stands out the most for you, get some hands-on information. Now, they are not going to allow you to see much but a good chat and give you an idea of what the career choice entails. Speaking to someone already in the field of your choice will be different from any research you have done. This will give you an idea of the life of a doctor practising his or her craft. Be sure to ask a lot of questions. You could also use this opportunity to ask about your personal statement for medical school. They will be able to guide you in the right direction.

  1. How do you feel about your choice

Do not underestimate your gut feeling or intuition. After gathering all information, do you feel excited or nervous about your choice? Remember, being a doctor cannot be done without the love and compassion for people. If you do not see yourself doing this for the rest of your life then do not waste your time. On the flip side, if you are over-excited about following through, then I say absolutely go for it. We can find out a lot about our passions if we look inwards.

  1. Take a quiz

I know these online quizzes can be a waste of precious time, but they ask questions that really get you thinking. You might be surprised at how you respond to some of the questions. It could not hurt to do it and you might just hit the jackpot with a great quiz. These type of quizzes are usually found on career websites and I have found some to be pretty accurate.

  1. Apply

You will see there is a flow towards the same field and that is the one you chose. If everything is pointing in the direction of a specific field and you feel passionate about it, it is time to apply. Medical school essays are a very important part of your application process. Spend a lot of time and attention on it because everything else is pretty generic. Make sure to highlight all your achievements and make yourself stand out. If your essay is good, you stand a better chance of getting into the medical school of your choice.

Now that we have listed the possible ways to help you chose a field, you are ready to start. Remember, this is the most important part of your road to becoming a doctor. Do not make the mistake like many others have and chose the incorrect path. You are going to have to probably do this for the rest of your life, so choose wisely. Do not rush into anything and if you are unsure, please take a minute and rethink it all. Only when you are 100% sure of what you want to do, then go ahead and apply. Many people would be happier individuals if they took the time to make sure they chose the right field. You have that choice now, so make the right one!
