  •  Hing or asafoetida is used in almost all Indian households as a flavouring agent.

Hing is used with promising results in female disorders. It is used during painful menstruation, irregular cycles, excessive bleeding during periods and in case of white discharge because it excites the secretion of ovarian hormones.

After child birth, a grain of hing with a teaspoonful of infusion of cloves is given to increase breast milk thrice daily.

Hing also excites sex stimulating centres. Male sexual disorders like spermatorrhoea, impotency, premature ejaculation of semen, etc, are best treated by hing.

Hing is also a proven remedy for respiratory tract disorders. For relief from whooping cough, bronchial asthma and bronchitis, etc, one grain of hing, two teaspoonfuls of pure honey, quarter teaspoonful of onion juice and one teaspoonful of betel leaf juice are to be taken together internally.

Try hing as a analgesic (painkiller). In Rheumatoid arthritis, in case of muscle pain and traumatic swelling, etc,

dissolve two grains of hing in one tablespoonful of pure coconut oil for local application.

Just inhale the hing during attacks of acute rhinitis, hysteria (fits), etc. It is quite helpful.

However, excessive use of hing is not advisable due to its semi-toxic effects.

  • Black Pepper is one of the most popular spices used in a variety of food preparations as well as in household remedies for many ailments.

Pepper is used as an excellent carminative and digestive agent in dyspepsia (tastelessness), flatulent colic and diarrhoea.

Pepper makes you lean and thin. In case of obesity take one betel leaf with 10 grains of pepper, followed by the intake of cold water for minimum two months.

  • Cardamom: It is called as the ‘Queen of Spices’ because it has digestive, anti-spasmodic and carminative properties. It stops belching, vomiting and nausea. It induces perspiration and improves blood circulation.

Cardamom is added to tea, coffee and milk to counteract their bad effects such as caffeine toxicity and phlegm formation.

Eating a ripe banana with a cardamom before going to bed cures constipation.

If you are having nasal blocks, inhalation of the cardamom smoke, generated by putting it on live coal, acts excellently.

In case of indigestion take the infusion made of equal parts of cardamom, saunf, ginger and a pinch of asafoetida in it.
