Dee Tees and Detoxes.

“ Living in Manipal is like continuously driving in a fast lane.” The good doctor and an ex- Manipalite remarked. I couldn’t agree more. “ But now that I am a doctor, I worry about the impact on their health.”
We had gone to the Apollo Hospital because suddenly Tanmay had developed pain in his right ear. Between sobs he had informed last night that his friend Aujasva had boxed him in his ear. We were worried. We gave him some pain killer and decided to see a specialist in the morning.

As we were waiting for our doctor, this one walked inside the Hospital in a hurry. However the moment he saw me, he hesitated. I thought nothing of it till he returned back. “ Sir, are you from Manipal?” I recognized his smile. If I was not wrong , he was in the final year when I had met him.

As we settled into his cabin for a quick coffee before he became busy, we started talking about the good ole days, a thought kept creeping up. How many students follow a healthy regime. i mentioned about my Detox regime. He was impressed.

The good doctor was in a hurry but he made me promise that I would write about it. I asked him if they would like to read something so boring. “ They would” he assured me.

Manipal students are a very passionate lot. Studies or socializing , whatever they do, they do it with a lot of zeal.

For an average Manipalite, visiting DeeTee or Blue water over the weekends is as important as visiting a class. Then there are the mandatory birthday parties. Weekends normally mean eating in either a pizzeria or the KFC or other fast food joint.

These things are bound to take a toll on the body.

This is where detox can be very beneficial. Detoxing in a layman’s language is the process of removing the toxins. It is a very simple process and isn’t very demanding.

Our body is like any machine. It too needs servicing. Think about how sincerely you send your cars and bikes for servicing. Why not care about your bodies with the same urgency?

Basically detoxing means cleansing of the blood. One may argue that it is anyway being done in the body. True it is. Our liver, kidney, skin etc. do remove toxins.

But our body is like a sponge. It absorbs everything. Our stressed lifestyle, Air pollution, water pollution, the food additives, eating habits and excessive partying puts a pressure on them. Hence it becomes imperative to remove the toxins with some special efforts once in a while.

There are various detox plans available on the net. Choose the one that suits you best. Never go for any market products. Natural detox is the best way. Also never do a plan which involves extensive fasting or involves long term restrictions.

It is advisable to see a doctor before beginning any one.
Remember to drink a lot of water and other fluids.

After the detoxification plan, you can cleanse your body daily with these diet, supplements and lifestyle practices:

1. Eat plenty of fiber, including brown rice and organically-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. Beets, radishes, cabbage are excellent detoxifying foods.

2. Eat raw tomatoes.

3. Take vitamin C, which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins.

4. Drink at least two quarts of water a day.

5. Breathe deeply to allow oxygen to circulate more completely through your system.

6. Meditate. It is very helpful to remove stress.

7. Sweat in a sauna so your body can eliminate wastes through perspiration. Exercising can be another good way of removing toxins.

8. Also steer clear of foods and beverages that are hard on your liver, including alcohol, smoked and cured meats, overly salted foods, high-fat foods, trans fats, and fried foods.

Guys, you all are in a hopeless minority, the ones who somehow suffer my writings. So for me you guys are precious. Hence it is alright to once in a while advise you to remain fit.

The doctor was pleased that I had kept my promise. He enquired about Tanmay’s health. I told him that there was nothing wrong with his ears. His nose had blocked due to cold. The doctor had advised steam inhalation.
He laughed and remarked, “ Boys will be boys!”
