Planning for College after an Educational Break

If you skipped college the first year out of high school to travel or be lazy or whatever the reason, then it’s time to take the next step back into educational bliss. After being out of school for a year, hopefully you had the opportunity to discover who you are and what you want. However, if you didn’t then it’s too late now if you are enrolled for your first semester of college.

If you have been out of school for a year right after high school searching for what you want to do with your life and still feel like you came up empty handed, then take the time to immediately see an advisor at the college or university you will be attending. Talk to them openly about what you like and what you don’t. Ask them for insight into careers and ask them for help in putting you onto the right path for career and educational choices.

College advisors have a lot of resources available to share with you if you will take the time to listen to them and their advisement. You can learn about options you may not have known about while possibly finding the path you want to take for your own curriculum.

After taking off from school for a year, the ideal situation is to enter back into the educational world with the knowledge that you are ready to buckle down and get serious about your education. If you find you can not do that right away then you need to see what it will take to get you to the point where you can. Do a lot of reading and search the internet for insight on where the demand will be for college students graduating within the next four to five years.
