Utsav 2014 kickstarts with a cultural extravaganza – Shruthi Menon

The multitudes of Manipal’s diversity of students and staff gathered in the sprawling lawns of KMC Greens in festive spirit on the first day of UTSAV 2014.

Staff of the various colleges of the University displayed as much enthusiasm and competitive spirit as their students, putting up a great show for Variety Entertainment and whipping up delectable delicacies at the cooking competition. The flower arrangement was a bouquet of creative endeavor as teachers and staff took a much-deserved break from the chalk-dust and blackboards of everyday routine. The stage transformed, with teachers becoming dancers and singers, actors and radio jockeys anchoring with exceptional skill.

As the staff paved the way to paths of glory, the students blazed the way ahead with debate, extempore, painting, cartooning and pot pourri on the first day of UTSAV. All five senses weaved a magic of their own as they came together to test their collective ability and strengths.

The cultural secretaries, beaming with pride, upholding the spirit and essence of their respective colleges inaugurated the fest in a visually stimulating Cultural March. Twenty four colleges and a mélange of courses joined together under the Manipal University scaffolding, pledged their oath, administered by Dr.Sreedhara Pai, Secretary, MU-CCC to honour their colleges in the course of the competition.

The evening then lit up, colouring the stage with the vibrance and festivity of various cultures, with the cultural Parade. Each presented with a unique theme, the parade is one of the highlights of UTSAV. “ Cultural parade is an extravagant display of the varying cultures of India on one stage. It is not just aesthetically appealing, but a revelation,” said Shwetha UD, a student of School of Allied Health Science.
