Champions League T20 team preview: Chennai Super Kings

The most consistent outfit in Indian Premier League (IPL), CSK have the wherewithal to take the crown this year.

Without doubt, Chennai Super Kings are the most consistent team in the history of IPL and are considered one of the most dangerous T20 sides in the world. Chennai Super Kings are also the only IPL team to complete a double i.e. winning the IPL and CLT20 in the same year. They achieved this feat in the 2010 season. This season they are drawn in a tough group B with Brisbane Heats (KFC T20 Big Bash League champions), Titans(South Africa’s domestic T20 runners-up) and Trinadad- Tobago (West Indies T20 champions) and a team from the qualifiers.

Positives:

There is a perfect balance in the CSK side with the presence four quality all-rounders in the playing XI –  Dwayne Bravo, Albie Morkel, Ravindra Jadeja, Chris Morris. Bravo was the leading wicket taker in IPL 2013 and Jadeja is the number one ODI bowler at the moment. These players also give terrific depth in the batting. In MS Dhoni, CSK has one of the best captains in World cricket. They also come across as a brilliant fielding unit with the likes of Raina, Vijay and Bravo in the side.

Weakness:

Hussey will be short of match practice as he has been out of competitive cricket for some time. Also CSK have not been able to carry over their IPL form into the Champions League over the last couple of seasons and this could play on the players minds. The bowling during death or slog overs may be a concern with the absence of genuine quick bowlers in the CSK line-up.
