MCODS Manipal – Oral Cancer Awareness Week

Oral Cancer is one of the most prevalent forms of cancer in India. To raise awareness about its causes, effects and means of prevention, the students of Manipal College of Dental Science (MCODS), Manipal, in collaboration with the Oral Cancer Organisation, an NGO, will celebrate Oral Cancer Awareness Week for the first time in Manipal.

The week long activities will begin with an ‘Awareness Walk’  flagged off from MCODS, at 4:30 pm on 31st May, 2013, leading to Syndicate circle. This walk will cover the KMC campus, with the intention of distributing pamphlets to students and locals and raising awareness about oral cancer, on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day. During this walk about two thousand pamphlets, in English and Kannada, will be distributed to spread awareness about this prevalent yet avoidable cancer form.

Tobacco consumption has been touted as the prime cause of oral cancer and an essential activity of the awareness week will be to conduct screening camps and give patient education for the MFSM workers in KMC, MIT and TAPMI, from the 3rd to the 7th of June, 2013. Post graduate students led by faculty members of MCODS, Manipal will conduct the camps. About two thousand workers are slated to benefit from this camp.

All students, faculty members and other residents of Manipal are cordially invited to attend, take part and help support this cause. For further information Ankit (9740727161) and Shams (9008419048) can be contacted.
