I’m confused about the phrases under the short story topics.Do we have to write the story based on them or our story can be about anything and it should just include those phrases?

    • ManipalBlog

You can do either. Preferably a story based on these rather than a story containing those phrases.

  • Guest

shoild the short story be less than 1500 words or between 1000 to 2000

    • ManipalBlog

      Hello Guest,

As mentioned in the guidelines, the story should be between 1000-2000 words. We do not mind if it exceeds or falls short by a few words as long as you stick to the topics/themes mentioned above.

For Poetry, should the title be the same as the theme?

Unfortunately, poetry cannot be written according to rules nor the imagination be harnessed to a ‘task’. If not written from the heart, what kind of poetry would that be? :)

    • ManipalBlog

While we do understand that, The topics are just there to provide a starting point for your imagination to run wild :) .

I am more interested in nature poetry . I have written many poems on it. If you give me a chance i can show you my work . Thank you :)

    • ManipalBlog

Adi, The tree topics are left to imagination, don’t you think as a poet you can work around the topics to imbibe nature in them? For example, you can consider the young girl at the fair to be a lovely vine :)

ALL the phrases under a single topic are a SINGLE topic, right? i’m confused :@

    • ManipalBlog

Yes Manish, Topic one contains the three phrases -  The first day of college, a love note, and I suddenly saw a light at a distance… and so on for the next two topics.

  • Vijayabhaskar Siddareddi

There should have been one topic on ‘Future of Technology’ – everyone is connected to everyone else, no one leaves for work or pleasure, no need to cook at home, everyone has individual personalized gadgets, then what? You can check for some latest info on the applications of IT at http://lifemeetsdigital.blogspot.com.

poetry contests should encourage imagination not limit it . By giving topics you are limiting the mind . This is kind of unfair . It`s seems you are giving a child to write an essay in a test .

    • ManipalBlog

       Hello Adi,

If your imagination can’t come up with a poem for these topics, what kind of a poet are you :)

  • Thehoodedface

    interesting topics :)
