Yet again..What is Life? -A tribute to Ishan Nihalani

Never met a better person than you in Manipal. Truly privileged to have a friend and known a person like you.

There can not be a greater agony for any parents in this world to witness their child’s death before themselves. Oh God why did you create this world if one has to behold such a moment.

I am still unable to forget Ishan’s mother’s face crying endlessly and his father not shedding a single tear before he broke down while addressing the students. Actually fathers are stronger figures or atleast they do not put their emotions to a display.

Never met a better person than you in Manipal. Truly privileged to have a friend and known a person like you.

But whom can we blame: college administration, bus driver, conductor, the day, the time, the life or the God. I really have no idea. Death is the one point where everyone is just helpless. Not even the greatest of the human minds could provide a solution to this. Here fails the Einstein’s Theory of Relativity or Newton’s Laws of Motion and life seems like a factless affair with no substance. This is the point where everything freezes and all scientific explanations and discoveries hold no good.

Practically speaking the case like of Ishan’s rarely end up with a positive outcome but I was hoping some sort of a miracle. He did not deserve to go like this. Truly speaking I have not met anybody better in human qualities than Ishan not only in Manipal but in life. He was such an enthusiastic yet disciplined guy. He was not the most gifted one when we talk in terms of physical fitness but his zeal for exercise and gym was supreme. Rarely he used to go for partying and in case he attended one then he used to come straight away from gym.

Only on last Sunday his mother was talking to us in hospital when she said even at home he was the most well behaved and never had a fancy or demand. He even used to wear old clothes of his uncles and father. The last time he demanded new clothes was a pair of Kurtas so that he could wear it while going to Krishna temple. He was a true religious person and was a recurrent devotee at VGT and Bhajan Kutir. The Sun can rise in the north and set in the south but one could never had an unpleasant time with him.

The way his father addressed the students at KMC Forensic building just showed his supreme character. He did not speak a single word against the college or administration instead thanked them for their support and even requested the students to maintain peace in college and stressed that instead of one Ishan he has now 1000’s of Ishan in form of all students. He even urged the students to be in touch with him via telephone so that he feels   Ishan is talking to him. Even his mother while crying relentlessly folded hands and greeted every student and faculty member present in her vicinity. Now we can guess why Ishan had the finest of the qualities in him.

I don’t know why God was in so hurry to call him. Sometimes God’s way of working is out of human intellect’s reach.

It was a true pride and privilege to have a friend like Ishan. May God send one son like Ishan to every family and parents like of him to every child. May your soul attain the greatest peace and fulfilment.

It  is sad indeed to lose a fellow MIT’ian. There is no doubt that the administration is careless and not geared towards improving the quality of student life. But, we are all educated people and trying to find a scapegoat for Ishan’s death by blaming the bus driver, director etc is not going to take us anywhere. Yes, the administration should not allow students to travel on the footboard. However, Ishan was not a child and did not need to be told that travelling that way is not without its hazards. He chose to overlook the dangers of travelling that way. Everyone does that everyday at MIT. But he paid the price. A heavy one. That is fact. His lack of maturity killed him. Did the administration have a role. Yes indeed. They should have enforced safe travel within the campus. But are they the only ones at fault? No. Not at all.

Speaking as an old student of MIT, it’s really sad to hear about this. I was in final year when college decided to ban private transport inside the campus. While in principle the idea is sound, clearly it is not being implemented practically.

Accidents do happen, and I think there are important lessons to take from this. First of all, the college needs to make it mandatory that no one will ride footboards on the college bus. None whatsoever! It is a simple rule that is easily enforced. If the bus cannot accomodate them all, they should get more buses.

Secondly, rioting in the streets rarely accomplishes much in my experience. It simply strengthens the resolve of the administration against the student body.

I applaud the writer of this post, and I hope that his friends honour his memory by conducting themselves in a way that their friend would be proud of.

SOME HEADS SHOULD BE PUNISHED FOR THIS,, for not listening to us.

we told them that life in Manipal is simply SHIT, Hostels are worst than dump yard. I want to ask the Director of MIT Can you live by yourself in such a room? I doubt it?

Manipal Uni. knows very well that Students are taking drugs INSIDE the campus and also under age Alcohol drinkers outside Manipal, yet Manipal Uni. didn’t complain to the police about it since Manipal wants their Students happy, but at the cost of their HEALTH?????

SEX is everywhere … can Manipal Uni. survive if parents came to know this? Manipal Uni. is destroying itself. I already hate it.. Thank god am done from it. I wll not recommend any student to come to Manipal. Life here is very dangerous, Sea,, bikes,,, Drugs,,, Drinks,, Sex,,, it is worst than Harlem.

Man maybe u wanna give hotels near coffee Day a visit or maybe u wanna give our flat visit and listen to the mounig at the night.

    • Student

u can’t find better hostels than 14th, 15th,16th and 17th blocks anywhere in India.. the hostel prices are little high, i agree.. but totally worth the quality of rooms!

Its only the administration that needs to be given a stick, infrastructure wise our college is strong!

ya i agree der r less no .of buses ..but even if no. of buses will be increased can any one guarantee der will be no rush n the 8:55 /7:55 bus rather dan the earlier 1..almost everyday d 8:45 bus goes half empty ….u shld not simply blame d managment….
watever happend to ishan is really very sad..but ppl r not doing anything for him..wat all protest students did is just for der sake of interest against Director bcoz she is strict…actually u dont hav any feeling of loosing ur friend …U ppl dont deserve a director like her…
