Best Places to Pick Up College Singles – A Guest Post by Tonya Vrba

Dating in College - The trick is to put yourself in prime single territory.

College is a unique time in anyone’s life. The fast paced four years are full of classes, internships, minimum-wage jobs, love and lust. Many still hold on to the idea they should be married soon after college while others are looking for a more laid back relationship. Whatever you’re looking for, you will never find a college lover without putting yourself out there. The trick is to put yourself in prime single territory. Here are some of the best places to find college singles.

  1. Get a job, preferably a job that allows you to interact with many people. Employment in food service and retail may seem like a drag, but think of all the people you’ll be in contact with. Strike up a conversation while you help a cute girl find the shirt she is looking for. If you want to be extra prepared, create a short elevator speech. I don’t mean to be forward, but I have to ask, are you single? (yes) I’d love to talk to you again. Do you want to grab a bite to eat? I’m off at eight.

  2. School sponsored events  are constant in college. There’s always a club or team hosting an event. There are few times in life where it’s so easy to just bump into the man or woman of your dreams. It’s as simple as asking if you can share a table with someone and striking up a conversation. When it comes time to ask if they want to go out with you, be as ready for a yes or a no. If you leave the conversation as soon as you find out they are single, they may get suspicious of you. People talk. If you blow your cover and suddenly everyone knows you’re only trying to find a date, people may stop talking to you. Keep the conversations going for a little longer. Perhaps he or she has a friend who would be perfect for you.
  3. Religious organizations often have events to build friendships within the religious college community. This obviously only applies if you have a religion. The types of people you meet at religious events are completely different from those who you will pick up in a bar. It is not the belief in God that makes them different, but the set of values they may have. You will be more likely to find someone who is kind, generous and loving within a religious setting than anywhere else. Most that are religious are looking for long-term relationships. If that’s what you’re looking for, think about hanging around after services and striking a conversation with those around you.
  4. Go to parties; enjoy your social life. Large house parties may make it a bit difficult to find a relationship with their loud music and drunkenness, but smaller get-togethers are perfect. You want the people you talk with to be able to hear you and remember who you are the next day. House parties are a possibility if you can find an area that’s not too loud and people who aren’t completely wasted. The best parts of parties are the games. Find someone you like and try and get them on your team for a game of beer pong. By the end of the night, it will just be common sense to exchange numbers.
  5. Hang in the dorms. This is last on the list because it is very college dependent. Not all colleges have mixed floors. What dorms often do have are events where everyone, girl and boy, can hang out together. It is also common place for people to have their door open when they are home. That’s an open invitation to stop by and make friends.

While colleges have some unique places to pick up singles, the actions are still the same as they have always been. Socialize with people, have fun and take charge. If you want to find a lover, then ask. What’s the worst that could happen?
